This year the PDC will be heading PÖFF’s Black Room, a training workshop dedicated to the visual language of cinema. It is part of Discovery Campus, an international continuing education program by Industry@Tallinn& Baltic Event and Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.
The PDC will also collaborate on a production design panel during the festival, featuring production designers of festival films. The events will take place between November 6-22, 2026.
We are grateful to PÖFF for this partnership opportunity, which will foster knowledge sharing, and enhance industry visibility for production design.
Black Room is a training programme dedicated to the visual language of cinema. It is part of Discovery Campus, an international continuing education programme by Industry@Tallinn& Baltic Event and Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.
Each year, it brings together emerging and established members of the art department, including production designers, art directors, costume designers, makeup artists, prop masters, and other visual storytellers, for an intensive masterclass that strengthens creative skills, expands industry knowledge, and explores how compelling cinematic worlds are built.
The program consists of a four-day workshop for eight selected professionals, led annually by a renowned international mentor. Each edition focuses on a current topic shaping the film industry. In 2026, Black Room will focus on production design, with further details to be announced in autumn.
Previous mentors include Thomas Foldberg, Debra McGuire, Steve Summersgill, Marco Bittner Rosser, Kave Quinn, Brunella De Cola, Sabine Hviid, Christian Olander, Jacqueline Abrahams, Simon Weisse, and Maria Djurkovic—award-winning professionals whose credits include Friends, Game of Thrones, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Trainspotting, The Matrix Resurrections, The Imitation Game, and many more.
Black Room offers a unique opportunity to learn from leading international practitioners, exchange ideas with peers, and develop the creative and practical skills needed to shape the visual identity of contemporary cinema.
The PDC will not only lead the Black Room Worshop, but will also prepare and host a panel discussion during Discovery Campus events. The panel will concentrate on the work behind festival films, and will feature production designers attending the festival.
