Bio

Nathan Evans is an emerging Australian production designer for film and television, drawing on 20 years of multidisciplinary practice across advertising, architecture and interiors, exhibition and event design, and graphic communication. He is known for art directing the SBS television series Meet the Changs (2022) and serving as production designer on the follow-up series Meet Leila and Ziad (2023), where he helped craft visually cohesive, culturally grounded worlds for primetime factual storytelling.

His recent screen work includes production design on the AFTRS short Interview with a Hero (2025), which premiered at Sydney Film Festival (Dendy Shorts, nominated), Melbourne International Film Festival (Accelerator), CinefestOZ and Adelaide Film Festival. This year, the film makes its international debut at the Cambodian International Film Festival, where the production team have been invited to meet the Australian consulate in Cambodia. Additionally, it has also been selected for the Atlanta Film Festival. Nathan’s work has been recognised with the Australian Production Design Guild (APDG) AFTRS Emerging Designer for a Screen Production Award in 2025 for his design on Interview with a Hero.

That same year, he was selected to exhibit his portfolio at UCLA’s Design Showcase West as a top graduating film and television design student globally. He has also presented his practice-led research internationally, including at the Production Design Research Network (PD-REN) conference held at the University of Westminster, London, where he presented an academic poster on the AFTRS-produced sci-fi comedy Collect Call as a case study in contemporary production design. Collect Call made its world premiere at Flickerfest, Bondi, Sydney, Australia, in January 2026.

Nathan is currently in pre-development for his second independent feature since graduating from AFTRS, and recently completed his first TV commercial for the charity “HOPE IN A SUITCASE”.

Alongside industry work, Nathan maintains a strong academic profile. He holds a Master of Arts Screen in Production Design from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS), a Master of Film and Digital Image from Sydney College of the Arts at the University of Sydney, a Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Sydney, and a Graduate Certificate in Design Science (Building). In a concerted effort of continual improvement, coming full circle from when he originally studied industrial design, earning a Bachelor of Design and Technology from Western Sydney University, he is currently waiting to commence his PhD research titled “The Digital Production Designer: Generative AI and the Future of World Building in Screen Media”.
