Bio

Ida Random is an Academy Award nominated production designer with a career spanning 42 years and over 30 films. Some of the projects she worked on include highly acclaimed films like Silverado, On Golden Pond, Rain Man, The Big Chill, The Fast and the Furious, Hoffa, Along Came A Spider, Throw Momma from the Train and the remake of Roots TV mini-series, just to name a few.

Ms. Random has worked with Hollywood directors like Brian DePalma, James Foley and Danny DeVito and actors of the caliber of Dustin Hoffman, Jack Nickolson, Meryl Streep, Robert DeNiro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Costner.

Born in Scotland, Ida spent some of her formative years in the African Continent, Ireland, Brussels and Canada, before moving to California to study art and design and start her career in film as an art director.

Painting since she was a teenager and still actively producing incredible works of art, Ida draws inspiration from her work in the film industry and her experiences living all over the world as a young woman. “When designing a film”, she says, “we are making a painting”.
