In Episode 9 of Apotheosis, PDC member Jean-Vincent Puzos chats with board member Alexander Whittenberg about the power of designing spaces that feel profoundly human rather than overtly cinematic.

Their conversation covers craft and philosophy as Puzos reflects on working with emotional restraint and trust - especially in Amour, where the apartment becomes not just a setting but a vessel for intimacy, aging, and grief. He shares how subtle spatial decisions can carry enormous emotional weight, often doing more than dialogue ever could.

They also discuss Puzos broader approach to design across his career, discussing how listening closely to a director, honoring lived-in realism and knowing when to step back are essential parts of the job.

“You have to be brave. You have to break the limits. You have to create bridges between concepts.”

Puzos and his team built an entire village in Hawaii for Jungle Cruise.

“The karma of our job is to make people dream when you design a movie.”
